Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has foiled another attempt to smuggle contraband cigarettes into Singapore.
A total of 1,180 cartons of cigarettes were seized from a lorry which was transporting a consignment of men's shirts at the Changi Airfreight Centre on Monday morning. With a estimated value of the illegal cigarettes valued at S$ 115,000 and additionally potential custom duty and GST amounting close to S$ 100,000.
The 51-year-old driver and his assistant, both Singaporean are now assisting the Singapore Customs in the investigation. The contraband cigarettes, lorry and cargo were handed over to the Singapore Customs.
