Get fined if employers did not ensure safety of maids while cleaning windows

Did you engage a foreign maid in Singapore to help out with household chores ? Then it is time that you keep an lookout ensuring your maid practices workplace safety and not letting her work in ways which might endanger her life.

In recent years, there are many cases of foreign maids fell to their deaths while performing their duties, especially cleaning of windows. In 2012, there are 8 of such cases being recorded.


Employers that has been found breaching of the work permit conditions for endangering lives of foreign maids can be fine up to $5,000 and permanently barred from hiring foreign maids in Singapore.

Offence filed under Work Permit Condition for employment of foreign domestic workers, under section 22(1)(a) of the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.
