New control measure over diesel engine

The NEA has announced a new measure with effect from 1st July 2012 that all off-road diesel engines to be imported for use in Singapore are to comply with EU Stage II, Us Tier II or Japan Tier I emission standards before it could be operated or use on the road.

This has affects most of the construction equipment such as mobile cranes, excavators, forklifts and power generators or any diesel engine with engine power above 560kW. The government has give a grace period up to 31st  Dec 2013 for all those newly-imported, new or used diesel engines intended for use in Singapore.

The NEA accepts common test reports for each make and model of new off-road diesel engine while for used off-road diesel engine, it can be sent to an overseas or Singapore accredited laboratory for emission test according to ISO 8178 standards.

It is an offence for any person that uses off-road diesel engines imported into Singapore on or after 1st July 2012 without compliance to the new regulations.

Any person who is guilty of an offence under any provision of these Regulations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $20,000.
